Asmara, 24 May 2013 – Reports indicated that the 22nd Independence Day anniversary is being celebrated in Khartoum city, Sudan, with patriotic zeal.
Speaking during the event in which senior Sudanese government officials, diplomats, religious leaders and community representatives as well as elders took part, Mr. Ibrahim Idris from the Eritrean Embassy indicated that the Eritrean people and their leadership are engaged in relentless development endeavors.
Mr. Mohammed-Seid Mentai, the Eritrean Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan, pointed out that the Eritrean people and their leadership could register gratifying development accomplishment pursuing the policy of self-reliance. He further stated that Eritrea and Sudan managed to foster relations of partnership on the basis of the prevailing socio-cultural ties, giving rise to a remarkable positive impact on peace and stability in the Horn region.
Representing President Omar Hassan Al-Beshir of the Republic of Sudan, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamd, expressed conviction that the deep-rooted societal ties between the two countries would serve as a stepping stone to reinforce diplomatic ties. Moreover, he expressed appreciation for the prevailing peace in Eritrea, and voiced goodwill to the Eritrean people and their leadership in connection with the 22nd Independence Day anniversary.
The Eritrean community members on their part asserted that they would enhance participation in the national development drive. An exhibition was staged during the event in which Bennifer Cultural Troupe presented impressive cultural performances, according to reports.
