Col. Sium Habtemariam passes away

Veteran fighter, Col. Sium Habtemariam, who has been under intensive medical treatment at the Air Force Hospital in Asmara, has passed away at the age of 67.

Asmara, 1 June 2013 – Veteran fighter, Col. Sium Habtemariam, who has been under intensive medical treatment at the Air Force Hospital in Asmara, has passed away at the age of 67.

Col. Sium joined the armed struggle for independence in 1975 following his one-year engagement in the underground political movement within the then enemy-occupied areas of the country, and served the people and the nation in various domains, including his latest position as the Head of Internal Security Staff.

The funeral service of the late Sium, married and father of six, would be conducted tomorrow at the Martyrs Cemetery in Asmara.

The Department of Internal Security conveys condolences to the family of Col. Sium, as well as his relatives and companions.
