Asmara, 4 June 2013 – The inhabitants of Dandiere-Genet, Mendefera sub-zone, said that the new pond in the village has ensured remarkable water supply for humans and livestock.
It is to be recalled that the inhabitants recently expanded the scope of the pond on the basis of integrating their financial and labor resources.
Among the inhabitants, Mr. Abraham Teklehaimanot and Isaias Debesai stated that the community is thus far engaged in popular ventures targeting enrichment of water resources and raising food production capacity.
Mr. Mekonen Fisehaye, soil and water conservation expert in the sub-zone, disclosed that the ongoing undertaking involved renovation of two ponds, restoring erosion-hit slopes, as well as construction of terraces and water catchment walls. Moreover, the community-led task is expected to continue on the basis of afforestation in collaboration with the local Administration, and women are playing significant role in promoting environmental conservation through facilitating introduction of the energy conserving stove Adhanet.
