Mendefera, 5 June 2013 – During a tour he made in Mendefera sub-zone, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arefaine Berhe, called on farmers to reinforce soil and water conservation undertakings.
He investigated the accomplishments made through popular undertakings as regards soil and water conservation in Ginabale and Dandre-Genet villages, besides the farm of an exemplary farmer, Mr. Yosef Berhane, in Laelai-Adi-Zarna. Moreover, Mr. Mekonen Fisehaye, from the Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, gave briefings in the course of the Minister’s visit.
Reports indicated that the exemplary farmer engaged in livestock production and fattening, as well as poultry farming has constructed a micro-dam at an expenditure of 1 million Nakfa.
Mr. Fasil Kiflai, who has been following up the construction of the micro-dam, expressed appreciation for Mr. Mekonen’s charisma as a farmer especially that he managed to finalize the task within 3 months despite his disability.
Mr. Arefaine also lauded the integrated efforts being exerted by farmers, and advised them to focus on efficiency in dairy farming and practice regular consultation with agriculture experts.
