Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region said that community-based environmental hygiene ventures in Gogne sub-zone have made remarkable impact in promoting community wellbeing.

Gogne, 8 June 2013 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Gash-Barka region said that community-based environmental hygiene ventures in Gogne sub-zone have made remarkable impact in promoting community wellbeing.

Mr. Abdu Yacob, head of environmental hygiene at the branch office, pointed out that a number of villages in the region have resorted to use of soak-pit latrines, and that 11 of which those are from Gogne sub-zone, giving the locality an exemplary image to this end.

Moreover, Mr. Efrem Berhane, environmental hygiene expert in the sub-zone, disclosed that stepped up promotional and community sensitization efforts were exerted in this regard.

Mr. Abdulahi Al-Amin Tita, head of social service in the region, stated that prevalence of the necessary community awareness as regards environmental hygiene gave impetus to the government program to this end.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Ismail Salm and Mr. Adem Ali Humed asserted that soak-pit latrines have been built in every household, and that instance of communicable diseases has shown visible decline following such accomplishment.
