Farmers in Wadi-Mogae area, Afabet sub-zone, are engaged in joint undertaking regarding soil and water conservation with a view to enriching water resources in the area, and thus giving impetus to farming activities.

Afabet, 10 June 2013 –Farmers in Wadi-Mogae area, Afabet sub-zone, are engaged in joint undertaking regarding soil and water conservation with a view to enriching water resources in the area, and thus giving impetus to farming activities.

Accordingly, the integrated venture is aimed at diverting Darya-Selem River to the 350 hectare-wide surrounding plains on the basis of constructing a 2 Km-long and 50 meters-wide water diversion canal.

Among the farmers, Mr. Mohammed Omar Melatse, Mr. Mohammed-Nur Humed, Mr. Saleh Ali Amir and Mr. Afa Mohammed indicated that they could previously raise the level of their harvest through carrying out similar undertaking, and lauded the government’s commitment as regards introducing modern farming techniques.

Mr. Hagos Gebretatios, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, lauded the initiative taken by the farmers, and expressed conviction that the venture would make remarkable impact in fostering agricultural output. He also called on them to sustain the initiative.
