Hagaz, 15 June 2013 – The inhabitants of Hagaz sub-zone said that they have finalized preparations for rain-fed farming.
Among the inhabitants, Mr. Mohammed Afa Abdalla, Mr. Ahmed Saleh Ibrahim, Mr. Osman Mohammed-Nur and Mr. Zeru Girmai disclosed that the task was accomplished on the basis of integrated community-based undertaking. They further expressed readiness to sustain the initiative involving implementation of soil and water conservation techniques, and called on the local Administration to continue collaborating with them.
Mr. Kidane Kibrom, head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, indicated that the accomplishment was made through carrying out a 5-month undertaking involving 3 working sessions a week. Subsequently, terraces have been built on more than 1,000 hectares, in addition to the construction of around 5,000 cubic meters of water catchment walls and renovation of a 40 Km-long dirt road.
Moreover, Mr. Kidane pointed out that the achievement registered to this end in Hagaz semi-urban center and Ad-Omar area is exemplary, and expressed appreciation for the participation of females in the process.
