Asmara, 18 June 2013 – The Ministry of Labor and Human Welfare indicated that it has been working on priority basis regarding rehabilitation of families of martyrs.
Mr. Zerai Tekleab from the Ministry explained that the Government continues to extend support to such families, in addition to laying the necessary groundwork for them to become self-supporting. Moreover, monthly financial support is being extended as of 2004 in benefit scheme on the basis of Proclamation No. 137/2003, he added.
Mr. Zerai further indicated that around 3 billion Nakfa has so far been paid in line with the scheme, while the programs launched with a view to equipping children of fallen heroes with the necessary skills have witnessed positive impact.
Meanwhile, a number of nationals residing abroad have taken appreciable initiative towards extending persistent care for families of martyrs, among whom are citizens who have been extending regular financial support to 54 families on individual basis. Such charitable gesture on the part of numerous nationals has also invigorated the societal value to this end, according to Mr. Zerai.
