Hagaz, 25 June 2013 – A dam is being constructed in Hashferai, Hagaz sub-zone, with a view to enriching water resources in the area.
Mr. Merhawi Tesfai from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone indicated that the dam’s construction has been underway since April in collaboration with the inhabitants of the area and members of the People’s Army. Moreover, he voiced conviction that it would have significant impact in fostering agricultural activities in the area.
Accordingly, 80% of the dam’s construction has been finalized, and it is due to provide ample water supply to the inhabitants of Fana, Badob, Hashferai, Ad-Alamin, Ad-Ahmed, Ad-Nisur and other Administrative areas, besides securing water resource potential for irrigation farming on 300 hectares.
Among those engaged in the construction of the dam, Mr. Berhane Bitsueamlak explained that the construction of such a dam is vital in the area which is rather characterized by aridity.
Likewise, Efrem Berhe, Osman Omar and Lt. Mebrahtu Gebresilasie, members of the People’s Army, expressed readiness to step up participation in government endeavors towards improving the livelihood of nationals, and that they would engage in the constriction of terraces in the environs of the dam so as to prevent sedimentary deposits there.
