Asmara, 26 June 2013 – Renovation of a dam in Daero-Pawlos area, Central region, which has been out of use over the past 27 years, is underway in collaboration between the regional Administration and the inhabitants.
Mr. Gebrehiwet Zere, community elder, and Ms. Rigbe Gebregziabher, members of the Central region Assembly, expressed conviction that the renovation of the dam would make remarkable impact in meeting the water demand in the area, and said that they would do their level best to facilitate the process.
Among the inhabitants, Ms. Jim’a Andebirhan and Semir Abdu, as well as Mr. Tewoldemedhin Debesai, Administrator of Daero-Paulos village, explained that the locality has been witnessing instances of water shortages following the damaging of the dam. They further expressed satisfaction with the joint initiative taken to renovate it, and disclosed that around 400 manpower has been mobilized in the daily venture.
Mr. Biniam Haile from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Central region stated that the process also involves upgrading the scope of the dam, and that the surrounding topography is beneficial for its water intake as it has been terraced well. It is expected to secure water supply for irrigation farming on more than 10 hectares upon full capacity, he added.
