Association of Dairy Farmers in Southern region exerting further efforts towards raising milk supply
The Association of Dairy Farmers in the Southern region said that it has been exerting further efforts towards raising milk supply on the basis of expanding scope of green feed cultivation.
Mendefera, 29 June 2013 – The Association of Dairy Farmers in the Southern region said that it has been exerting further efforts towards raising milk supply on the basis of expanding scope of green feed cultivation.
Mr. Tewolde Zemichael from the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mendefera sub-zone disclosed that the Association has cultivated more than 14 hectares around Adi-Ada area with green feed, in addition to the animal feed supply they have been obtaining. He further indicated that the branch office recently distributed maize canes harvested from 5 hectares to the Association members, and that the regional Administration has been collaborating actively in this regard.
Among the Association members, Rev. Yacob Kidane, Mr. Mihretab Kahsai and Ms. Manna Hailemariam stated that their cattle have been yielding more milk following the consumption of additional green feed, and that further efforts should be made as regards raising the harvest to this end.
Reports indicate that the Associations of Dairy Farmers in Debarwa, Mendefera and Adi-Quala sub-zones are engaged in cultivation of green feed on a total of around 41 hectares in Tera-Emni, Shekha-Wedi-Bisrat and Adi-Ada areas.
