Tesenei, 5 July 2013 – The Inhabitants of Fanko Administrative area, Tesenei sub-zone, are engaged in the construction of diversion canal with a view to expanding the scope of irrigation farming in the area.
Mr. Ezra Gebrekidan, coordinator of the undertaking, pointed out that the venture is a continuation of the soil and water conservation activities the community has been carrying out as part of its preparations for rain-fed farming.
One of the inhabitants, Mr. Mohammed Mahmoud Idris said that active community participation is being witnessed in the process in line with a growing awareness to this end.
Mr. Ibrahim Haj, Administrator of the area, and Mr. Mahmoud Ahmed explained that the overall task involving restoration of erosion-hit areas is being accomplished in collaboration with members of the People’s Army.
Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Aderde Administrative area explained that the popular soil and water conservation accomplishments registered in the area have made positive impact.
Among the inhabitants, Mr. Mahmoud Osman, Mr. Adem Abe, Ms. Amna Abubeker and Ms. Saba Woldu stated that they anticipate better harvest in accordance with the preparations they made for the wet season.
Mr. Osman Abubeker, member of the People’s Army, indicated that they have also been extending labor support to needy nationals and families of martyrs on prioritized basis.
