Reports indicated that the inhabitants of Forto-Sawa sub-zone are making remarkable input in the renovation of  a diversion canal in Asheda area with a view to raising harvest.

Forto-Sawa, 12 July 2013 – Reports indicated that the inhabitants of Forto-Sawa sub-zone are making remarkable input in the renovation of  a diversion canal in Asheda area with a view to raising harvest.

Among the participants of the undertaking, Mr. Simret Gebretinsae, Ms. Weini Abraham and Mr. Habtetsion Abrar indicated that soil and water conservation ventures conducted by the community have made significant impact in increasing agricultural output. They further pointed out that the community has extended a helping hand to the undertaking in line with the conviction that the renovation of the diversion canal would give impetus to such move.

Mr. Isaias Rusom, soil and water conservation expert in the locality, disclosed that such popular activities are being conducted on regular basis, and lauded the initiative of the inhabitants backing the process of the diversion canal’s renovation as well as the active participation demonstrated thereof.

Likewise, Mr. Mulu’e Gebrezgi, irrigation farming expert, said that machineries have been deployed in the renovation of the 880 meter-long diversion canal.

Mr. Ogbai Gebreamlak, Head of the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, explained on his part that the problems in connection with the canal are narrowness and accumulation of massive sedimentary deports. Its renovation is expected to be finalized before the onset of the main rainy season, he added.
