Afforestation activities conducted by Adi-Shimhabti inhabitants in the environs of Warsai Dam witness commendable outcome

The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Southern region said that afforestation activities conducted by the inhabitants of Adi-Shimhabti village in the environs of Warsai Dam with a view to preventing sedimentary deposit have witnessed commendable outcome.

Mendefera, 15 July 2013 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Southern region said that afforestation activities conducted by the inhabitants of Adi-Shimhabti village in the environs of Warsai Dam with a view to preventing sedimentary deposit have witnessed commendable outcome. It made the statement at a meeting with the inhabitants, during which it was stated that the majority of the planted 45,000 tree seedlings have flourished well and the inhabitants were awarded 150,000 Nakfa for their exemplary accomplishment.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Bahta Tedros, Head of the branch office, explained that such achievement has remarkable impact in ensuring animal feed and environmental stability.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Ata Seid, Ms. Haimanot Araya and Mr. Kesete Woldemichael expressed satisfaction with the spirit of harmony witnessed in the process, and expressed readiness to engage in such initiatives in the future.

Likewise, Mr. Tesfatsion Girmai, head of economic development in the region, noted the need of reinforcing popular soil and water conservation undertakings and lauded the role of Adi-Shimhabti inhabitants to this end. He also called on the inhabitants of other villages to emulate their initiative.
