The NUEW branch in the Southern region has called on members to extend a helping hand in endeavors towards doing away with harmful customary practices.

Mendefera, 15 July 2013 – The NUEW branch in the Southern region has called on members to extend a helping hand in endeavors towards doing away with harmful customary practices. It made the call at a meeting with staff memebrs of the office and heads of sub-zonal branches, during which it was stated that a number of sensitization activities and seminars were conducted targeting childhood marriage and FGM.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Saliha Adem, Head of the regional branch office, noted the need of community participation in the realization of the cherished goals, and indicated that the all-round awareness and organization of members is on the rise. She further called on members to effectively utilize the opportunities the Union is creating.

Moreover, Ms. Tirhas Adresom, Head of the Union’s credit scheme in the region, pointed out that the program is aimed at improving the livelihood of members, and that various trainings have been organized throughout the region as regards its utilization.
