Efforts being exerted to satisfy tree seedling demand in the Central region

The tree seedling nurseries in the Central region have been working to satisfy tree seedling demands in the region, according to Agricultural experts.

Asmara, 20 July 2013- The tree seedling nurseries in the Central region have been working to satisfy tree seedling demands in the region, according to Agricultural experts.

Mr. Alem Kelete, expert of temperate fruits in the MOA branch in the region, indicated that there are tree seedling nursery centers at Biet-Gergis, Merhano, Imbaderho and Serjeka, and that the objective is to prepare variety of tree seeds for distribution inside the country.

He further stated that citizens are developing the habit of planting temperate fruit tress in their backyard, and that the centers, beyond supplying seedlings, are also teaching people.

Mr. Zerisenai Kelkel, head of Merhano tree seedling center, explained that the center supplied 255 thousand apple, quince and olive tree seedlings to Debub, Southern Red Sea, Central and Northern Red Sea regions.

Mr. Kiflai Debesai, head of tree seedling nursery center at Biet-Gergis, on his part indicated that so far they have been able to distribute 300 thousand seedlings to the market and for free.

Mr. Abraham Araia, vegetables expert, said that there are plans to plant 22 thousand apple, quince and olive trees provided in the Central region, and that so far 15 thousand have already been distributed.
