The Health Ministry’s branch in the Central region indicated that community role as regards safeguarding child and mother health has become significant in line with the establishment of communal groups in this connection.
Asmara, 29 July 2013 – The Health Ministry’s branch in the Central region indicated that community role as regards safeguarding child and mother health has become significant in line with the establishment of communal groups in this connection. It made the statement in connection with a recent graduation of 80 members of such groups who have been attending a training course, during which it was stated that the role of communities is a vital prerequisite in lowering child and mother mortality rate.
Mr. Mehari Hidad, head of administration and finance in the branch office, explained that the launching of communal groups targeting child and mother health was first introduced in Embaderho village and then to Azien and Quazien following the assessment of its impact. He further called on the graduates to do their level best in this regard.
Mr. Amanuel Sium, head of social service in Gala-Nefhi sub-zone, and Mr. Tesfamariam Mebrahtu, Administrator of Himbirti semi-urban center, disclosed that remarkable accomplishments have been registered as regards promoting child and mother wellbeing, and that further efforts should be exerted for still more gratifying outcome.
Among the trainees, Rev. Woldetinsae Habtemichael and Ms. Adhanet Seid expressed readiness to demonstrate commitment in their pursuit as volunteers.
Mr. Zedingil Gorgorios from the branch office stated that the volunteers have significant role in raising the number of mothers attending antenatal care, and that they are striving to establish such groups in the remaining part of the region.
