Nursery in Mendefera sub-zone playing remarkable role regarding conservation of endangered indigenous trees

The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mendefera sub-zone indicated that a nursery in the locality is playing remarkable role as regards conservation of endangered indigenous trees.

Mendefera, 02 August 2013 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mendefera sub-zone indicated that a nursery in the locality is playing remarkable role as regards conservation of endangered indigenous trees.

Mr. Woldu Gebregiorgis, forestry and wildlife expert in the sub-zone, disclosed that more than 250,000 seedlings of 14 tree species which were prepared over the past 7 months are being planted by individuals, institutions and participants of the SWP. He further explained that the ongoing venture focuses more on endangered indigenous trees, the process of which demands more energy and financial resources, and called on the inhabitants to make the necessary follow-up on the planted trees.

Moreover, Mr. Kinfe Beraki, head of the nursery, pointed out that it has ensured a number of job opportunities, in addition to its significant impact on the environment.

Among the beneficiaries, Mr. Embaye Gebreamlak said that an eucalyptus variety from the nursery which they planted last year has flourished well, and lauded the efforts being made by the nursery.
