Call made for concerted efforts to assist orphans and nationals with social challenges

In a workshop conducted in Barentu it was expressed that concerted efforts should be exerted on the part of the society in general and administrative areas, police, health institutions, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare in particular to assists orphans and people with social challenges.

Barentu, 03 August 2013- In a workshop conducted in Barentu it was expressed that concerted efforts should be exerted on the part of the society in general and administrative areas, police, health institutions, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare in particular to assists orphans and people with social challenges.

Mr. Eyob Kidane, Director of the MLSW branch in the region, explained that the objective of the workshop was to identify measures that should be taken to assist children with social challenges, and that the activities being undertaken by the Ministry have made significant contribution towards that end. He also indicated that natural and human made constraints have been the main causes for orphanages.

Mr. Habtemariam Abraha, head of Social Affairs in the branch office, on his part indicated that the priority of the Ministry has been to stop the prevalence of abandoning children, and called on the police, health institutions and the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare to exert concerted efforts to stop the illegal activities and assist the victim children.

The participants expressed readiness to live up to expectations to ensure the safety of the victim children following the instruction of the concerned institutions.
