Reports indicated that water and soil conservation popular campaign is being undertaken in the sub-zones of Areza, Mendefera and Ginda through Students Summer Work Campaign program.
Asmara, 03 August 2013- Reports indicated that water and soil conservation popular campaign is being undertaken in the sub-zones of Areza, Mendefera and Ginda through Students Summer Work Campaign program.
Mr. Amanuel Bereketeab, water and soil conservation expert in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the sub-zone, indicated that the Students Summer Work Campaign program in Areza and
Mai-Dima began in the first week of July, and that so far good amount of terraces and water catchments have been built and over 2,200 holes dug for planting tree seedlings.
Mr. Mekonnen Feshaie, water and soil expert in Mendefera sub-zone on his part indicated that 12 thousand tree seedlings are being planted by students, teachers and members of the Agriculture Ministry on barren areas and the Martyrs Cemetery in the sub-zone.
Likewise, Mr. Yemane Yihdego, coordinator of the popular campaign, explained that in the administrative areas of Dengolo-Laelai, Ginda, Embatkala, Nefasit, La’aiten and Mai-Habar activities like preparation of holes for tree seedlings planting, as well as building of terraces and water catchment schemes are underway through the Students’ Summer Work Campaign program.
The participants of the campaign program said that planting trees alone is not enough and called on the need to preserve them.
