Central region: Call made for stepped-up efforts as regards doing away with traffic accidents

The branch office of the Traffic Police Force in the Central region called on the inhabitants to extend a helping hand towards doing away with traffic accidents in the region in general and Asmara city in particular.

Asmara, 15 August 2013 – The branch office of the Traffic Police Force in the Central region called on the inhabitants to extend a helping hand towards doing away with traffic accidents in the region in general and Asmara city in particular.

Lt. Colonel Tadese Berhane, head of the branch office, indicated that the main causes of traffic accidents are instances of laxity on the part of pedestrians and motorists, and that the role of nationals is vital in promoting traffic safety both at individual and family level. He further disclosed that they have conducted promotional campaigns focusing on the Associations of taxi and truck owners as well as schools.

In the same vein, Lt. Colonel Angesom Abraha, head of control and penalty in the branch office, said that the tendency of recklessness on the part of young drivers is among the common cases in point, and called for enhanced parental role in this connection.

Corporal Isaias Berhane, head of investigation in the branch office, stated on his part that the majority cases of traffic accidents are related to youths between the age range 20 to 30, and called on youths to demonstrate readiness for the desired behavioral change in this regard.
