Mendefera sub-zone: Stepped-up efforts being exerted to promote modern mode of farming

The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mendefera sub-zone said that stepped-up efforts are being exerted towards promoting modern mode of farming.

Mendefera, 16 August 2013 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Mendefera sub-zone said that stepped-up efforts are being exerted towards promoting modern mode of farming. It made the remark at a meeting which was conducted with farmers, engineers and Agronomy experts focusing on use of modern approaches of irrigation this week.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Eyasu Asefaw, head of the branch office, disclosed that the Ministry would sustain efforts towards meeting the growing demand for expertise, pesticides, fertilizers and select crops, and that the introduction of wheat irrigation is aimed at raising the production of wheat floor.

Moreover, Mr. Simon Abraha, head of engineering in the branch office, gave briefings regarding pressure-involving irrigation techniques, and explained that farmers who have become beneficiaries of such equipment should wait for their assembly by experts, besides calling on them to practice their judicious utilization.

Likewise, Mr. Behane Firezgi, head of crop development in the locality, stated that select wheat seed has been distributed to a number of exemplary farmers for cultivation, and that it is suitable for the production of bread and pasta. He also called on the farmers to integrate their experience with the instructions by agriculture experts.
