Keren, 23 August 2013 – The Administration of Hamelmalo sub-zone indicated that further endeavors are being exerted towards promoting production of incense.
Mr. Teklai Berhane, Administrator of Ferhien area, indicated that remarkable harvest has been obtained from various trees in around 60 hectares in the area, and that new trees are in the course of plantation on the basis of the collaboration between the Administration of Anseba region and the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as popular undertaking. He further disclosed that the inhabitants of the area are conducting daily campaigns involving more than 800 manpower focusing on the follow-up of the trees, while guards have been appointed in Sequina area.
Among the participants of the community undertaking, Ms. Gimja Gebremedhin, Mr. Agdubai Ansera, Ms. Leteyosef Michael and Ms. Selama Abdalla pointed out that they have been demonstrating active participation in the venture in line with their conviction that the community is direct and indirect beneficiary of the trees. They also stated that soil and water conservation accomplishments registered by the local community have made positive impact to this end, and noted the need of raising popular awareness regarding such trees in connection with effective harnessing of the potential thereof.
