National Anti-doping Organization organizes seminar for nationals engaged in sports activities

The Eritrean National Anti-doping Organization this week organized a seminar for 69 nationals engaged in sports activities with a view to raising their awareness in this regard. The participants of the seminar include sports teachers, athletes, cyclists, coaches, reporters, artists and pertinent people from the EDF.

Asmara, 23 August 2013 – The Eritrean National Anti-doping Organization this week organized a seminar for 69 nationals engaged in sports activities with a view to raising their awareness in this regard. The participants of the seminar include sports teachers, athletes, cyclists, coaches, reporters, artists and pertinent people from the EDF.

In opening remarks, Maj. General Ramadan Osman Auliyai, Sports Commissioner, noted the need of promoting the awareness of nationals as regards use of such drugs vis-à-vis the importance of the role of coachers to this end.

Mr. Mehari Mebrahtu, head of the organization, indicated that Eritrea became member of the World Anti-Doping Agency in the year 2008, and that it has been exerting further endeavors towards preventing instances of a practice of this type, especially in the sports domains of athletics and cycling. He further pointed out that the conducting of the seminar is part of the efforts being made to promote public awareness thereof.

The seminar dealt with the history of doping and its negative impact among athletes, besides the prohibited drugs in this connection, and the participants conducted extensive discussion.
