Around 150 thousand tree seedlings planted in Anseba region on the basis of SWP

The Education Ministry’s branch in Anseba region pointed out that around 150,000 tree seedlings have been planted on the basis of the SWP, besides the construction of about 54,000 cubic meters of water catchment walls.

Keren, 27 August 2013 – The Education Ministry’s branch in Anseba region pointed out that around 150,000 tree seedlings have been planted on the basis of the SWP, besides the construction of about 54,000 cubic meters of water catchment walls.

Mr. Kifle Solomon, head of the program in the region, disclosed that more than 116,000 meters of terraces have been renovated and constructed, and that the undertaking also included effective follow-up tasks on flourished tree seedlings, as well as labor support for families of martyrs in rain-fed farming activities. He further indicated that the program was conducted on the basis of 48 stations region-wide involving a total of 6,500 participants, coordinators and agriculture experts.

Accordingly, the role of Area administrators was important in the process, and the Area’s soil quality is rated to have remarkable convenience for the planted seedlings.

Among the participants, Bereket Abdu, Samrawit Yohanes Hanan Ali and Osman Mohammed expressed conviction that the venture has made significant impact as regards soil and water conservation. They further pointed out that the working atmosphere entails exchange of experience.

Mr. Kifle called on the inhabitants of the region to extend a helping hand towards ensuring sustainability of the accomplishments thus registered.
