Haikota, 27 August 2013 – Reports indicated that the diversion canal in Hashenkit area, Haikota sub-zone, which was damaged by heavy rainfall, has been renovated through the collaboration between the community and members of the People’s Army.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Abdalla Mohammed Haj, Ms. Mihret Tesfazgi and Mr. Adem Humed pointed out that the construction of the facility has been making remarkable impact in raising agricultural output in the area, and expressed the community’s readiness to enhance soil and water conservation activities.

A member of the People’s Army, Seid Omar Saleh voiced conviction that a joint venture of this type can give added impetus to national development, especially the endeavors of ensuring food security. He further called on fellow nationals to sustain such community initiatives.

Mr. Gergis Teklai, head of irrigation and natural resources development in the sub-zone, disclosed that the process would continue with application of machineries as the rainy season concludes.
The diversion canal in Hashenkit feeds around 720 hectares, reports added.
