Heavy rainfall causes flooding in various areas of Anseba region

Reports indicated that  heavy rainfall has caused flooding in various areas of Anseba region last week giving rise to heavy damage on residential houses, livestock, trees and a total of 700 hectares of rain-fed as well as irrigation farms.

Keren, 03 September 2013 – Reports indicated that  heavy rainfall has caused flooding in various areas of Anseba region last week giving rise to heavy damage on residential houses, livestock, trees and a total of 700 hectares of rain-fed as well as irrigation farms.

One of the inhabitants, Mr. Abdalla Ahmed Bekit disclosed that his farm comprising a number of orange, lemon and mango trees was washed away by the flood.

Likewise, Mr. Osman Hamd pointed out that various spots of terraces and water catchment walls which were constructed through popular undertakings have also been destroyed.

Mr. Mahmoud Idris Ali, Administrator of Genfelom area, explained that such a scenario is a new phenomenon in the area, and that 400 farming land plots have been devastated.

Meanwhile, similar cases were reported recently from the sub-zones of Asmat and Kerkebet highlighting some loss of assets including livestock.
