The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Southern region has awarded exemplary Green Clubs in 10 schools ranging from Elementary to High School level that demonstrated remarkable accomplishment in afforestation.

Mendefera, 06 September 2013 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Southern region has awarded exemplary Green Clubs in 10 schools ranging from Elementary to High School level that demonstrated remarkable accomplishment in afforestation.

The award collectively comprises 32 bicycles.

Speaking at the handing ceremony, Mr. Bahta Tedros, head of the branch office, noted the importance of such school-based environmental activities, and called on school administrations to play due role as regards the nurturing and popularization of environment-friendly norms.

Mr. Kalab Tesfasilasie, head of the Education Ministry’s branch in the region, indicated that an award of this type entails motivational factor on the part of schools to prove commitment towards ensuring environmental stability.

Moreover, directors of the awarded schools pointed out that the clubs were formerly established on the basis of individual initiative and volunteering by students and teachers. They also stated that growing enthusiasm is being witnessed to this end especially on the part of student members, and lauded the Agriculture Ministry’s commitment in connection with supply of tree seedlings and professional consultancy.

The number of Green Clubs has recently shown visible growth, according to reports.
