An assessment was made by coordinators and pertinent experts yesterday regarding the accomplishments registered on the basis of previous SWP undertaking in the Central region.
Asmara, 10 September 2013 – An assessment was made by coordinators and pertinent experts yesterday regarding the accomplishments registered on the basis of previous SWP undertaking in the Central region.
In the course of the meeting at Asmara City Hall, Mr. Yemane Abai, Director General of the Agriculture and Land Department in the city municipal Administration, pointed out that a growing trend has been noted over the past years pertaining to the number of participants in the Program vis-à-vis the growth in outreach attained subsequently. He further disclosed that more efforts were made to enhance the necessary organization for the venture, giving rise to the gratifying accomplishment registered this year.
Ms. Halima Mohammed, head of the Education Ministry’s branch in the region, indicated that the program ensured the groundwork for nurturing the culture of work and interactive exposure for popularization of societal values, besides its palpable input in the nation’s development. She also lauded the active participation of youths and stakeholders in the process.
Moreover, Mr. Abraham Berhe, head of the SWP, stated that the number of participants witnessed growth by 22.2% this year involving 38 stations and majority participation in soil and water conservation undertakings. Other work accomplishments pertain to archival and other office works in hospitals, in addition to promotional activities in connection with road traffic safety, he added.
Around 400,000 tree seedlings have been planted through the Program this year, according to reports.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Kahsai Gebrehiwet, said that the Administration has been exerting endeavors supplementing implementation of the program on the basis of allocating the necessary budget, and that the scheme has gained momentum thanks to the persistent collaboration of stakeholders.
The participants of the meeting put forth views focusing on several issues, while schools, teachers and experts who demonstrated excellence during the previous undertaking were awarded.
