Joint seminar conducted focusing on collective bargaining and decent work

A joint seminar was conducted this week focusing on collective bargaining and decent work involving the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers (NCEW) and the Employers Federation of Eritrea (EFE), as well as experts from the International Labor Organization.

Asmara, 11 September 2013 – A joint seminar was conducted this week focusing on collective bargaining and decent work involving the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers (NCEW) and the Employers Federation of Eritrea (EFE), as well as experts from the International Labor Organization.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tsegai Mogos, pointed out that a number of tripartite seminars of this type were conducted previously, and that the specialty of the current occasion lies on the joint participation of the NCEW and the EFE. He further expressed conviction that the seminar would make significant impact in fostering relations among the participant institutions.

Also speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yemane Tesfai, Chairman of the EFE, indicated that the provided agenda is not a new phenomenon in the Homeland although the practice thereof has been witnessing intermittent nature pursuing economic and social conditions. He also noted the need of ensuring the necessary groundwork for mutual benefit between employers and workers through promoting forum and exchange of experience.

Mr. Mohammed Trabelsin and Mr. Eric Oechslin, both from the ILO office in Cairo, Egypt, said that such seminar was initiated in Eritrea 5 years ago with a view to furthering constructive relations between employers and workers. They further expressed the institution’s readiness to enhance collaboration to this end in the future.
