Farmers in Barentu sub-zone expressed readiness to conduct thorough follow-up of crops until they are harvested.

Barentu, 12 September 2013- Farmers in Barentu sub-zone expressed readiness to conduct thorough follow-up of crops until they are harvested.

Mr. Maso Debi, inhabitant of Kuna, said that members of the community were worried for the late coming of rainfall, and that their concern was alleviated after the continuous rainfall from the beginning of August, and that their harvest is in good condition.

Mr. Girmai Tesfai, inhabitant of Kuluku Administrative area, explained that with the good late rainfall they received they have cultivated their land, and that they are conducting regular follow-up so that their crop would not be damaged due to pests and weeds.

The Agriculture Ministry’s branch office indicated that in this current harvest season, 8 thousand hectares have been cultivated in Barentu sub-zone through traditional mode of farming as well as through machinery.
