Asmara, 13 September 2013 – The Ministry of Land, Water and Environment has called on nationals to practice prudent utilization of water, and thus nurturing vision-oriented norm in this regard.

The message issued by the Water Department disclosed that some of the domains of activity where water wastage has been witnessed in urban settings pertain to construction, car wash, household farming, park gardening and water bottling, among others. It further noted the role of communities in the realization of the cherished goal, and called for still more prompt response in the renovation of damaged water supply facilities.

Accordingly, enhanced efforts need to be exerted as regards preventing alluvial deposits from dams and micro-dams, in addition to the necessary behavioral change thereof in urban areas.

Moreover, further ventures are necessary regarding keeping in line with soil and water conservation, as well as agricultural activities with the topography of respective areas, while the vitality of afforestation in mountainous areas remains to be a must to this end.
