Eng. Fasil Kiflai, irrigation farming expert, called on vegetables and dairy farmers in Mendefera sub-zone to step up efforts to satisfy market demands.

Mendefera, 21 September 2013- Eng. Fasil Kiflai, irrigation farming expert, called on vegetables and dairy farmers in Mendefera sub-zone to step up efforts to satisfy market demands.

He commended the farmers for their efforts to ensure milk and meat supply alongside vegetables, and reminded them to build micro-dams aimed at enriching underground water.

Farmer Yosef Berhane who is engaged in sheep farming in the outskirts of Mendefera told Erina that he is also being engaged in vegetable farming, and that so far he has cultivated 7 which is in good condition.

He further indicated that he has built a dam that could hold 40 thousand cubic meters of water and has put in place sprinkler irrigation equipment.

Mr. Tedros Kasa, seedling development expert in the sub-zone, on his part commended the efforts being exerted by Mr. Yosef  for planting 500 tree seedlings and contributing in endeavors to control soil erosion, and called on others to follow his example.
