Fish farming efforts in the dams at Gash-Barka region is registering good outcome, according to Mr. Dejen Foto, head of fish farming in the Marine Resources Ministry.
Barentu, 21September 2013- Fish farming efforts in the dams at Gash-Barka region is registering good outcome, according to Mr. Dejen Foto, head of fish farming in the Marine Resources Ministry.
He pointed out that the fish farming at the dams of Gerset, Fanko-Rawi, Fanko-Tsimu’e and Bademit is aimed at using the water cumulated in those dams for fish farming on top of their usage for irrigation farming, and thus enable the inhabitants in those areas to become beneficiaries of fish products. He also said that so far three types of fishes are being hurnessed and that they are in good condition.
Mr. Dejen stressed the importance of establishing fishing groups in order to create conducive ground for the inhabitants to become beneficiaries of the program, and called on the inhabitants and Government institutions to reinforce participation.
