Haikota sub-zone: Endeavors targeting prevention of malaria witnessing positive impact

The Health Ministry’s branch in Haikota sub-zone indicated that endeavors targeting prevention of communicable diseases in general and that of malaria in particular are witnessing positive impact, and that further efforts should be exerted for still more gratifying outcome.

Haikota, 24 September 2013 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Haikota sub-zone indicated that endeavors targeting prevention of communicable diseases in general and that of malaria in particular are witnessing positive impact, and that further efforts should be exerted for still more gratifying outcome.

The inhabitants of the locality pointed out that the community’s awareness in this regard is on the rise in line with the community sensitization activities undertaken, and explained that popular participation has made significant input in eradication of swamps and other potential mosquito reproduction spots.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Adem Mohammed Humed, Mr. Seid Sheikh Mahmoud and Ms. Natsinet Yemane stated that various sustained community-led ventures were conducted in this connection, and called for the continuation of spraying mosquito killers.

Mr. Teklebirhan Teklezgi, head of environmental health in the sub-zone, said that limited community awareness regarding the use of mosquito-targeting insecticides used to cause hindrance to this end, and that instances of malaria have shown visible decline thanks to the integrated measures taken.
