Reports indicated that owners and employees of service businesses in Mendefera city carried out soil and water conservation campaign in connection with World Tourism Day on the 27th of September.

Mendefera, 25 September 2013 – Reports indicated that owners and employees of service businesses in Mendefera city carried out soil and water conservation campaign in connection with World Tourism Day on the 27th of September.

The venture involved restoration of slop areas and construction of terraces.

Among the participants, Mr. Nur-Hussein Ibrahim and Mr. Abraham Medhanie note the significance of such undertaking as regards ensuring environmental stability, and said that they would sustain their role to this end.

Mr. Yohanes Asgedom, head of the Tourism Ministry’s branch in the Southern region, pointed out that the undertaking was organized as it was decided to mark the Day in such a spirit in collaboration with the Agriculture Ministry’s branch. He further stated that they would back up soil and water conservation endeavors, and disclosed that the program was implemented successfully in all sub-zones.

Mr. Mekonen Fisehaye, soil and water conservation expert in the region, lauded the initiative taken by the service business, and called on government bodies and other institutions to step up participation in future afforestation efforts.
