Central region: Further endeavors being made as regards nurturing young sportspersons

The Sports Commission’s branch in the Central region said that further endeavors are being made as regards nurturing young sportspersons on the basis of promoting children-based activities.

Asmara, 30 September 2013 – The Sports Commission’s branch in the Central region said that further endeavors are being made as regards nurturing young sportspersons on the basis of promoting children-based activities.

Mr. Endrias Asmerom, head of the branch office, said that the role of the citizenry in general and that of parents in particular is a vital prerequisite in this regard.

Among children engaged in sports activities, Senai Hailemariam, Afrah Mohammed Ali and Yonas Tewolde pointed out that recent tournaments among them have laid remarkable groundwork for exchange of experience and effective time use during vacation time. They further called for the continuity of such competitions.

Temesgen Yirgaw and Samson Solomon, coaches, explained that the current young generation holds promising young sportspersons, and that the role of young females was significant in the previous tournaments. They also lauded the investment the Government is making in this domain.

Out of parents, Ms. Asmeret Gebremichael and Mr. Solomon Gebregziabher called on parents to motivate sport inclinations among their children.

Reports indicated that winning athletics, football and cycling teams received awards upon the conclusion of the children-focused tournaments which were conducted from August 8 to September 28.
