Dige, 09 October 2013 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Dige sub-zone said that raised community awareness is a prerequisite as regards malaria control and ensuring the necessary popular participation thereof. It made the remark at a meeting with the inhabitants, during which it was stated that such awareness is on the rise in the locality following the implementation of a number of community sensitization programs, thus giving rise to a decline in mortality and morbidity resulting from malaria.

Mr. Samuel Debesai, head of malaria control in the sub-zone, explained that further promotional campaigns are necessary with a major focus on remote areas pursuing proper use of mosquito nets and adherence to other preventive mechanisms in connection with malaria. He further pointed out that the Ministry of Health is exerting stepped-up efforts targeting eradication of the disease, and that the nurturing of adequate popular awareness is a stepping stone towards the realization of the cherished goal.
