Dirt road linking Mendefera-Kudachira-Aregitmekrem being renovated through popular undertaking

The inhabitants of 10 villages in Mendefera sub-zone are engaged in the renovation of a 7-Km dirt road linking Mendefera-Kudachira-Aregitmekrem on the basis of popular undertaking.

Mendefera, 12 October 2013 – The inhabitants of 10 villages in Mendefera sub-zone are engaged in the renovation of a 7-Km dirt road linking Mendefera-Kudachira-Aregitmekrem on the basis of popular undertaking.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Tesfazgi Asmelash and Mr. Huruy Sibhatu indicated that the road has been causing transport problems following its erosion during the last rainy season, and that the communities have mobilized overall resources for the realization of the cherished goal.

Mr. Abraham Beraki, coordinator of the community-led undertaking, stated that a fundraising task was fulfilled involving the inhabitants and residents of Asmara and Mendefera cities who are natives to the villages in this connection. He further lauded the collaboration of the sub-zonal Administration in the process.

Mr. Maekele Tesfamichael, head of economic development in Mendefera sub-zone, pointed out that the communities have renovated ponds and other dirt roads through similar initiatives, and that the popular ventures witnessed active participation of women.
