Underground water reservoirs being constructed in Gelalo sub-zone

Reports indicated that underground water reservoirs are being constructed in Hariena, Abdur, Marsa-Fatima, Bededa, Aluli, Garsa and Diluh areas, Gelalo sub-zone, through the collaboration between the inhabitants and members of the People’s Army with a view to meeting the demand for potable water supply.

Gelalo, 13 October 2013 – Reports indicated that underground water reservoirs are being constructed in Hariena, Abdur, Marsa-Fatima, Bededa, Aluli, Garsa and Diluh areas, Gelalo sub-zone, through the collaboration between the inhabitants and members of the People’s Army with a view to meeting the demand for potable water supply.

The inhabitants expressed conviction that the initiative attests to the government’s commitment as regards ensuring equitability of social service. They further disclosed that previously built reservoirs of this type have made positive impact in simplifying loss of energy in the daily activity of the community.

Among the inhabitants, Mr. Abdalla Idris, Mr. Mohammed Mukhtar, Mr. Ahmed Mohammed and Ms. Kedija Omar expressed satisfaction with the carrying out of such activity, following the accomplishment of which the water demand for humans and livestock is expected to be met with sustainability. The achievement would also significantly ease house chores, giving opportunity for women to participate in socio-economic activities, they added.

One of the coordinators of the undertaking, Mr. Fikadu Habtesilasie, said that securing more water reserve in the locality constitutes a springboard to improving the livelihood of the inhabitants.

He also stated that the process has reached the stage of finalization, and lauded the active community participation in it.
