NUEW branch in Serejeqa sub-zone holds 2nd Assembly

The NUEW branch in Serejeqa sub-zone held its 2nd Assembly last week. Reports presented at the meeting indicated that the role of women in promoting national security and economic development constitutes a vital prerequisite, and that endeavors exerted to this end have witnessed gratifying outcome.

Serejeka, 14 October 2013 – The NUEW branch in Serejeqa sub-zone held its 2nd Assembly last week. Reports presented at the meeting indicated that the role of women in promoting national security and economic development constitutes a vital prerequisite, and that endeavors exerted to this end have witnessed gratifying outcome.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Selomie Gebresilasie, head of the branch office, disclosed that future undertaking would focus on raising the participation of youth members through promotional campaigns, in addition to extending support to needy women.

The members of the Assembly adopted future action programs as well as work guidelines, and elected a new 7-memebred managing committee.

In closing remarks, Ms. Tek’a Tesfamichael, head of the NUEW branch in the Central region, pointed out that the Union is committed to nurturing women who effectively participate in all domains, and called on the members of the new committee to demonstrate commitment to this end.

Mr. Tesfu Fisehatsion, Administrator of the sub-zone, on his part said that more efforts need to be exerted towards doing away with instances of harmful customary practices.
