In connection with the Hand Washing Day, the Health Ministry’s branch in the Central region today called for the popularization of the practice vis-à-vis proper application of soap with a view to doing away with contamination.
Asmara, 16 October 2013 – In connection with the Hand Washing Day, the Health Ministry’s branch in the Central region today called for the popularization of the practice vis-à-vis proper application of soap with a view to doing away with contamination.
Speaking on the event organized in Asmara thereof, Dr. Tesfai Solomon, head of the branch office, called on nationals to raise awareness as regards the need of using soap while washing hands before and after mealtime as well as use of latrine. He went on to explain that the sensitization process in this regard should begin at family level, and stated that instances of diarrhea in children as well as contamination-borne respiratory problems could be lowered by 47% and 23% respectively upon applying proper hand wash.
In the same vein, Mr. Berhane Negash, head of administration and finance in the Administration of the Central region, called on the inhabitants to enhance the practice of proper hand wash and domestic hygiene.
Mr. Jatrick Sajani, UNICEF Representative in Eritrea, expressed appreciation for Eritrea’s endeavors in various health domains including sanitation. He also lauded those who made remarkable contribution in organizing the event.
