The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Molqi sub-zone has called on farmers to raise harvest through adherence to select seeds. It made the call at a meeting in connection with local Farmers’ Day during which the issues of proper terracing and timely tilling as well as weeding were also discussed.

Molqi, 16 October 2013 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Molqi sub-zone has called on farmers to raise harvest through adherence to select seeds. It made the call at a meeting in connection with local Farmers’ Day during which the issues of proper terracing and timely tilling as well as weeding were also discussed.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Woldesilasie Tekie, head of the branch office, and Ms. Nitsihti Abai from the National Agricultural Research Center in Halhale pointed out that endeavors are being exerted to enable farmers become beneficiaries of agricultural research outcomes and professional guidance.

Mr. Tesfamichael Mehari, soil and water conservation expert, noted on his part the importance of effective water use as regards ensuring ample harvest, and urged farmers to step up efforts in this regard.

Among exemplary farmers in the locality, Mr. Rusom Ogbamariam and Mr. Amanuel Tekle expressed satisfaction with the select seeds provided by the research center, and called on the Ministry to distribute them to all farmers.
