Call made for driving instructors to produce drivers that give priority to public safety

Mr. Solomon Zeru, head of land transportation branch at the Central region, called on driving schools to produce drivers that give priority to public safety.

Asmara, 19 October 2013- Mr. Solomon Zeru, head of land transportation branch at the Central region, called on driving schools to produce drivers that give priority to public safety.

He indicated that the main objective of the branch is to oversee the safety drivers, vehicles and the public, and that instructors and drivers have the responsibility of minimizing accidents and raising awareness of traffic law.

He further pointed out that in the past 9 months out of around 19 thousand driving learners only about 2 thousand passed the driving examination, and that out of 20, 624 vehicles 300 small and heavy vehicles have run out of service.

Likewise, Mr. Yosief Alemseged, vice chairman of driving schools, and Mr. Andebrhan Habtemariam, owner of Merkeb Driving School, called on the Department of Land Transport to give due attention to the task of providing technical advice to driving learners during examination.
