Central region: Agriculture Ministry’s branch awards school-based Green Clubs of remarkable accomplishment
The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Central region has awarded bicycles to a total of 19 school-based Green Clubs that made remarkable accomplishment as regards afforestation.
Asmara, 23 October 2013 – The Agriculture Ministry’s branch in the Central region has awarded bicycles to a total of 19 school-based Green Clubs that made remarkable accomplishment as regards afforestation.
Speaking at the ceremony at the nursery in Beit-Giorgis, Mr. Abraham Daniel, head of the branch office, pointed out that the ongoing development activities entail priorities pertaining to conservation of natural resources in general and soil and water conservation in particular. He further noted the importance of the role of schools as regards realizing the cherished goal, and thus the need to reinforce their activities in this connection.
Also speaking on the occasion, Ms. Halima Mohammed, head of the Education Ministry’s branch in the region, stated that stepped-up efforts have been exerted with a view to popularizing the activities of such clubs among schools, and that the initiative taken by the Agriculture Ministry has significant impact to this end.
Mr. Mehari B’ide, Administrator of Keih-Bahri Comprehensive Secondary School, and Ms. Tirhas Teame, director of Mekeyiro Elementary School, said that the award gives impetus to the activities of Green Clubs, which are playing vital role in encouraging student inclination towards environmental interest.
Likewise, Mr. Getachew Mehari, School director in Tseazega, and Mr. Zerizgi Goitom, a teacher from Weki village, expressed conviction that the Clubs are expected to nurture spirit of competition among them.
