Farmers in Keren sub-zone indicated that the trend of crop production has shown significant increase following the conducting of community-led soil and water conservation undertakings.

Keren, 24 October 2013 – Farmers in Keren sub-zone indicated that the trend of crop production has shown significant increase following the conducting of community-led soil and water conservation undertakings.

They further disclosed that the community has been engaged in the construction of terraces and water catchment walls for a longer time, while this year’s venture continued for 5 months since January. The communal work would witness enthusiasm in the course of the harvesting season, the farmers added.

Speaking at a meeting with the inhabitants, Mr. Amha Gebrewahid from the Administration of Keren sub-zone stated that the accomplishment attests to the prevalence of hard work, and called on them to keep intact the community virtue. He also expressed the readiness of exerts to collaborate in such undertakings.

Among the Area administrators, Mr. Yohanes Tesfai, said that wood enclosures in the area are making visible input regarding the preservation of indigenous trees, and called for the exerting of more efforts in this regard.
