Asmara, 25 October 2013 – The popular undertaking regarding afforestation and others that has been underway since last June by members of the People’s Army in the Ministry of Information and PFDJ central Office was assessed effective.

Speaking at the meeting conducted thereof today at Hager Media Hall in the Ministry, Mr. Fikadu Tesfamichael, soil and water conservation expert, pointed out that the process involved the planting of new tree seedlings and replacement of some trees, and stated that soil quality, condition of water resource and other related factors were studied on the basis of scientific approach. He went on to disclose that a prior plan to plant apple and peach seedlings was averted taking into account availability of water supply and the area’s soil quality, thus adhering to predominant plantation of olive seedlings.

Accordingly, 98% of the planted around 1,000 tree seedlings have flourished well, while continued follow-up has been described a prerequisite for  sustained impact to this end.

Moreover, the role of the Administration of the Central region was assessed significant in the process, and the participants of the meeting called for rather effective approach of manpower dispatch in future undertakings.
