Vaccination campaigns making significant impact in raising livestock production, Say veterinary professionals and farmers in Gash-Barka

Veterinary professionals and farmers in Gash-Barka region said that vaccination campaigns on livestock and saddle animals have made significant impact as regards raising production through lowering instances of diseases and external as well as external parasites.

Shambuko, 27 October 2013 – Veterinary professionals and farmers in Gash-Barka region said that vaccination campaigns on livestock and saddle animals have made significant impact as regards raising production through lowering instances of diseases and external as well as external parasites.

Mr. Woldemichael Teklit, veterinary professional in the Agriculture Ministry’s branch in Shambuko sub-zone, indicated that outreach vaccination campaigns have been carried out twice a year, and called on owners and herdsmen to enhance follow-up in this connection.

Among farmers, Mr. Medhanie Woldai and Mr. Habte Gebrai stated that cases of loss in livestock due to bovine diseases have shown visible decline following the conducting of regular vaccination services, in addition to the positive outcome attained pertaining to raising the output thereof.

Dr. Teklezgi Tekie, Coordinator of veterinary service in Gash-Barka region, disclosed that such touring vaccination services have been underway on regular basis since the year 2005, and that around 160,000 livestock and 5,000 saddle animals have been vaccinated this year in Shambuko sub-zone. He also urged farmers to report quickly in case of any new instances of diseases
