A seminar as regards developing statistical data on livestock in Gash-Barka region vis-à-vis their production was conducted in Barentu city with a view to launching such task in the forthcoming year.

Barentu, 05 November 2013 – A seminar as regards developing statistical data on livestock in Gash-Barka region vis-à-vis their production was conducted in Barentu city with a view to launching such task in the forthcoming year.

In the course of the forum in which agriculture experts and sub-zonal Administrators took part, it was stated that the region is endowed with the most outstanding number of livestock nationwide although no accurate statistical report has been issued to this end. An extensive campaign is expected to be launched shortly, according to reports.

Mr. Bahta Tedros, director general of land and agriculture in the regional Administration, noted the importance of maintaining an accurate statistical data in the successful implementation of agricultural programs and assessment of domestic as well as international markets. He also called on communities and Administrative bodies to collaborate with agriculture experts in the course of the campaign.

The Administrator of Gash-Barka region, Mr. Mohammed Hamd, disclosed that the undertaking constitutes part of the Administration’s current annual plan, and that the necessary preparations in this connection have been finalized.

Moreover, the seminar participants said that the role of farmers is a prerequisite for the realization of the cherished goal, thus calling for the implementation of promotional campaigns beforehand so as to raise their awareness.
