Majority of villages in Anseba region become beneficiaries of community-based environmental hygiene programs: Report
The Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region indicated that the majority of the villages in the region have become beneficiaries of community-based environmental hygiene programs.
Hagaz, 07 November 2013 – The Health Ministry’s branch in Anseba region indicated that the majority of the villages in the region have become beneficiaries of community-based environmental hygiene programs. It made the statement at an assessment meeting, during which it was stated that community awareness on environmental hygiene grew significantly following the conducting of community sensitization activities, thus giving rise to visible decline in communicable diseases.
Mr. Berhane Gebrekidan, head of environmental health in the branch office, disclosed that Andelai village has had an exemplary image in this connection, especially as regards use of soak-pit latrines, and called on the inhabitants of the remaining villages to emulate such popular accomplishment.
Mr. Gebremeskel Gebrehiwet, head of the Health Ministry’s branch in Hagaz sub-zone, and Mr. Musie Gebrehiwet, head of environmental health in the sub-zonal branch, pointed out that the integrated efforts made targeting improvement of community wellbeing have resulted in commendable outcome. A total of 20 villages have been engaged in promoting environmental health on the basis of popular initiative, he added.
Among the inhabitants, Ms. Genet Bariu and Mr. Kidane Sibhatu lauded the government’s commitment pertaining to furthering health services.
A total of 80 villages in the region have become beneficiaries of environmental sanitation programs, according to reports.
